The Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary
What You Will Experience
The Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary is one of only eight free-release primate sanctuaries in the world. Covering approximately 7ha in one of the many kloofs of the Magaliesberg mountain range, the sanctuary is home to squirrel, spider and capuchin monkeys which were previously raised as household pets or bred for pet trade. Guests leave tours with the understanding that monkeys do not make good pets – monkeys will always be better suited to a natural, free-living environment!

Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens
What You Will Experience
Set on a 300ha estate, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden needs a picnic basket, a blanket and conversations that last all day! A popular location for weddings, special functions and picnics, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden features the spectacular 70m Witpoortjie Waterfall. This is regarded as the source of the Crocodile River, which flows into the Hartbeespoort Dam. The gardens are home to jackals, mongooses, scrub hares and porcupines and an astonishing 340 bird species. Perhaps the most popular of these are a breeding pair of Verreaux’s Eagles which nest can be found on Roodekrans Ridge. The restaurant within the garden has a camera on the nest 24/7, and if you’re lucky, you may just spot a bit of social activity from these aloof but majestic birds. While 25ha are maintained as gardens, the rest is an untouched nature reserve, with breath-taking cliffs made of bands of quartzite and shale rocks that tell the story of the incredible geological history that formed them.
